It is no exaggeration to say that Reflexology, after my family and friends, is my favourite thing. Well I would say that wouldn't I? I have tried many therapies and I have loved many therapies, but every month I make the journey to Bacton (a 50 minute drive away) to spend a day with my therapy sister swapping treatments. I always want the feeling I get when my feet have been 'done'. It's hard to explain, but I think the reason I love it so much is because I don't have to talk and at the end of the treatment (or sometimes a day or two later), I feel like the best me again. The body is very clever and knows what to do with the right encouragement. As the years have gone on, I have found that adding Reiki has taken the experience to a whole new level!
I am an eternal optimist but I am human. My life is busy and I sometimes feel overwhelmed by the list of things I have to do. In am not the most organised person and I regularly forget the school forms/craft materials/payments I was supposed to get sorted for my children, not to mention the life admin that is always stacking up in the background. I feel guilt and I feels stress like most people living in this modern world. Every now and then I just feel like a grayer version of myself. I don't quite know what is wrong but I feel worn out, lacking in energy or irritable. This is usually the time I look to have a reflexology treatment.
Reflexology is like a car service. It re-balances your body, so it is more able to do the job it was made to do. Stress and negative emotion in general releases cortisol, which over time can be detrimental to our health. Reflexology re-sets and calms the body so it can go about it's business outside of panic mode. Of course I'd always recommend regular treatments but understand that budgets and time constraints can get in the way of good intentions. If you can, make it part of your routine, but if you can't make it your first option when life gets tough, things are changing or you need to focus because your mind has become clouded.
Many of my clients report feeling like they are halfway between being awake and asleep when they have a session with me. I like to think that this is a type of meditation that the body so needs. But more than just the peace you feel during your hour on the couch, it's the balance you feel afterwards that makes reflexology so special. Who said we need to push ourselves to our limits, sometimes our bodies need to stop and re-charge. Don't take my word for it, give it a try. It's the thing you didn't even know you needed.
